In this frenzied world in which we live, we must actively seek peace and calm. Our bodies are hurriedly running around doing what needs to be done on a day-to-day basis. Our minds are constantly overloaded with all of the things that we must remember to do and the bombardment of information. Many of us struggle to control our minds even at night, when it is critical to unwind and provide rest for our physical self. Thus, it is imperative that we ACTIVELY find time to acknowledge our soul. I am using the term soul here to refer to the living energy of life that is the “battery” charging our bodies into motion each and every day. This energy of life needs to be fully acknowledged, respected, and rewarded just as we all do.
When we do something, and our contributions are not only acknowledged, but also rewarded…that is when we shine bright. Our inner life energy is no different. The body and soul need to be acknowledged, respected, and rewarded too. When we offer this to ourselves, a sense of peace, calm, and safety takes over. How do we offer this to our soul? The same way we do to our physical self.
When we have a sudden pain or illness, we normally wait it out to see if we can heal it on our own. At the very least we try to alleviate our symptoms. We may take a pain reliever for aches and pains that arise. We may even take medication or herbal treatments to help with fever or other symptoms. The process is fairly straightforward…we acknowledge that something in our physical body is not feeling normal, we decide to help treat that ailment, and we take action by finding a viable treatment that offers some relief.
When we ignore a sudden pain or illness, and don’t take action to try to help treat it, we generally discover that our physical condition gets worse. By neglecting to acknowledge the issue, deciding how to treat it, and taking action to help heal it, we are showing our physical body that we don’t care about it. Why wouldn’t we care about our own body? It’s the only body that we have. The same holds true for our soul. When we ignore what our soul is sensing, choose not to respect those sensations, and carry on as if everything is just fine, we discover that our inner state worsens. We do not feel a sense of peace and calm, but instead a sense of neglect, helplessness, and a variety of other inner voids.
The overall message here is to take the time to acknowledge both your body and soul. Are there any imbalances or issues that need to be acted upon? If so, make the decision to take action to help both your body and soul. Then follow through by taking action to bring both to a place of peace and calm, or at the very least a state of normal.
Typically, when the soul is being acknowledged, respected, and rewarded it settles into a peaceful and healthful existence and the body follows suit. Starting from the inside is a wise place to begin. Some people can bring their soul into a state of peace and calm by meditating. Others by exercising or doing yoga. Mindfulness and presence have become popular practices to help bring the soul a sense of peace and calm. Journaling is yet another means in which people take heed to the soul. By writing down what your soul is sensing, you are directly giving it a voice. It is able to speak its truth. You write down everything. This action not only acknowledges your soul, but it also respects what it has to say by giving the senses time and words to relay the sensations. They say that the eyes are the pathway to the soul. By journaling what your soul senses, then you are allowing it to see that it matters. It can look out onto the words that you are writing or typing, and physically see that you are paying attention to it. What your soul is sensing counts and matters! This action alone is rewarding and healing. The soul will not feel left out nor ignored.
Using our senses to acknowledge, respect, and reward our soul is the best way to go. For example, if your soul is grieving allow your eyes to fill with tears and cry. When your soul is angry, allow your body to release the extra negative energy by exercising. Go for a walk or run. When your soul is sensing fear, speak about the fear out loud so that your ears can listen to the words that describe what your soul is sensing. Or write about the concerns that your soul has, so that your eyes can see what it is sensing. There is a tangibility to what our soul is picking up on and trying to communicate. Instead of keeping it locked up in silence, allow it to have a voice via your many senses and physical self.
Your body and soul are companions for life. They should be each other’s best friend. This connection should not be a casual acquaintance. Your body should run to the aid of your soul, and your soul must support your physical self as well. When you are feeling alone or isolated, focus your attention on this inseparable union and friendship. If one is feeling unwell, allow the other to nurture and care for it. This is the way to bring both the body and soul into a place of peace and calm, the ultimate reward. It is a way to never feel alone. It is a way to heal and balance in wholeness.
